Why am I charged double for the lenses?
For high prescription Single Vision lenses the cost of the lenses will be doubled as the lenses needs to be custom made. Different lenses have a range for prescription to be added and if the prescription is above the specified range then the cost of the lenses will be doubled. Usually the cost of the lenses is doubled if the SPH is above plus minus 4 or CYL is above plus minus 2. However for some lenses the power range may be lower/higher.
I order for reading lenses and though my SPH and CYL value is less why am I charged double?
For reading lenses we need the total power of the lenses. We add the Spherical CYL and ADD power together and if the power is more than + 4 then the cost of the lenses will be doubled.

  What is Single vision lens?
Single vision lenses have the same focal power throughout (top to bottom) and can be used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, or a combination of these disorders.
  What is Bifocal lens?
Bifocal reading glasses are split into two divisions, upper and lower. The upper helps in distance vision, the lower helps in near vision. Thus Bifocal reading glasses allow the user to not just read in them but also look at faraway objects at the same time and with equal ease.
  What is progressive lens?
Progressive lens are those that increases in power from top to bottom. They have no clear dividing lines as the focus changes from bottom to top. The lenses have three focal points which are Distance vision, intermediate and reading. These lenses are also known as no Line Bifocal.
  What is no line bifocal?
No line bifocal lenses are also known as Progressive lenses.
  What is clear lens?
Clear lenses are lenses with no color on it.
  What are tinted lenses?
Colored lenses are called the tinted lenses and it is also called sun lenses. The lens actually absorbs the tint color into the lens material. Tint density is defined as a percentage, where 0% is completely clear, and 100% permits no light to pass through (solid). A 10% to 20% tint is used for a “fashion” tint, and a 50% to 80% tint is used for outdoor protection from the sun.
  What are polarized lenses?
Polarized sunglass lenses are tinted lenses that block vertical light from hitting your eye and causing eye strain. Hunters, boaters and fishermen, golfers, and drivers are the most common users of polarized lenses. Any surface can create glare in sunlight, including water, sand, snow, windows, vehicles, and buildings. Polarized lenses ease eye stress and fatigue in the sun.
  What are photo chromatic lenses?
PHOTOCHROMATIC LENSES contain light-sensitive molecules that darken and lighten according to the intensity of ultraviolet light/ Sun Rays. Their advanced technology adjusts to changing light, so you see clearly and more comfortably in virtually any light condition. Indoors, Photo chromatic Lenses are as clear as your regular eyeglasses. Outdoors, they quickly darken, getting as dark as sunglasses, if necessary. They provide 100% UV protection.
  What are Polycarbonate lenses?
Polycarbonate is a type of shatter-resistant plastic, considered a major advance over earlier plastics used in lens fabrication. Polycarbonate lenses also are lighter and thinner than basic plastic lenses, because they have a higher index. Because polycarbonate lenses are tough and scratch-resistant, they are highly recommended for children and active adults.
  What are hi-index lenses?
High index lenses are made of materials that are compressed, or denser, so the same amount of visual correction is taking place using less lens material than traditional plastic or glass requires. "High index" means that the lenses are constructed of a plastic or glass material that has a higher index of refraction. The "index of refraction" refers to the speed that light travels as it passes through the lens material. Hi-index lenses are recommended for high prescription. Theses lenses are especially designed to counter the thickness of the lenses. The three Hi index lenses are 1.6, 1.67, 1.74. Higher the index of the lenses thinner is the lens.
Do the lenses come with anti-scratch coating and UV protection?
All the lenses that are available come with anti-scratch and UV protection by default.
  What is anti-reflective coating?
Anti-reflective or anti-reflection (AR) coatings are a type of coating applied to the surface of lenses and other optical devices to reduce reflection. This improves the efficiency of the system since less light is lost. Anti-reflective coating are especially recommended if you use glasses while using computer, watch TV or also for driving.

How often should I get a new pair of glasses?
You should get a new pair if your prescription has changed; your doctor will let you know. Therefore, it's important to know how often to visit the eye doctor: it depends on many factors, but as a general rule, you should go once a year or once every two years. Your doctor can tell you what schedule is right for you. If your prescription doesn't change very often, or at all, just get new glasses when you're tired of your old ones or they go out of style.

What do the numbers on my eyeglass prescription mean?
An eyeglass prescription contains information showing the lens power required to correct vision problems. It consists of sphere power, cylinder power, cylinder axis, bifocal addition, and prism power. Your prescription may or may not contain all of these numbers, for example if you do not have a bifocal you would not have a bifocal addition in your prescription. Most prescriptions do not contain prism power. A PD (pupillary distance) measurement is also needed to produce your glasses.
