Taking Care of Eyeglasses - GlobalEyeglasses.com
With proper care, a pair of eyeglasses can last for several years. Here is what you can do:
- Frequently check your eyeglasses for any signs of wear and tear. If a screw is loose, visit your optician to have it tightened. You can also purchase a small, precision screwdriver and do this yourself.
- Carefully check the alignment of your eyeglasses while standing in front of a mirror. If they seem misaligned, visit your optician for a frame adjustment.
- To clean your eyeglasses, rinse them under lukewarm tap water to flush away any dust or grit (that can cause scratches), rub a few drops of a mild cleaning liquid on both sides of the lenses and all parts of the frame (using your thumb and fingers), rinse with lukewarm water and dry with a clean, lint-free cotton cloth.
- Avoid the temptation to wipe your glasses with the tail of your shirt. Also avoid using paper towels/napkins for the purpose. This can damage the lens. Always use a microfiber lens cleaning cloth for any touch-up cleaning. It is available at most optical shops.
- Avoid exposing your glasses to extreme temperatures. Don`t leave them behind in a hot car or direct sunlight. Doing so might damage their coating.
- Always keep your eyeglasses in a protective case when you`re not wearing them. This will protect them from dust and dirt, and also from being damaged if someone sits on them accidentally. Cases that are hard on both sides offer the best protection.
- Always use both hands to remove your eyeglasses. If your case isn`t around, leave the temples open and place your eyeglasses upside down on a flat surface. Wipe sweat from your eyeglasses as soon as possible. Sweat can damage frame finishes and lens coatings.
- Clean your eyeglasses thoroughly at least once in a day. Dust and dirt on your lenses can hinder your vision and possibly scratch your lens.
- Never hold your glasses by the lenses. Doing so will leave grease and oil on them (even if your hands are clean).
